MexicoLocation: Guadalajara (Messico) A course in film directing, Guadalajara, in search of man's existential values: “Filmar lo ineffable”. Kepha The Foundation sponsored the filmmaking course entitled “Filmar lo ineffable”, held in Guadalajara during the academic year 2008/2009, at the Centro Superior de Produccion Cinematografica. The purpose of the course was to stimulate young filmmakers to experiment with alternative types of film production, utilizing a language elaborated from an anthropological perspective as a means of communication, able to transmit the strong values of hope and the meaning of life and to innovatively narrate man’s personal, spiritual, transcendental and historic dimension. The course, aimed at graduates aged 35 and under, in cinema and audio-visual arts was designed to assist new recruits in the process of certification and in the research of new forms of expression in working as part of a team, encouraging linguistic innovation on a structural level, able to reflect existential density, joined by an artistic endeavor attentive to the memory of cultural and local identity, reflecting contemporary culture and a Judeo-Christian anthropological and cosmological vision, without limits in terms of topic matter or religious orientation. The students benefitted from personalized tutoring for their projects and each student with his crew was able to shoot a short film for each semester course. The course was created with the collaboration of the various institutions which joined efforts with Centro Superior de Produccion Cinematografica. In addition to the Kepha Foundation, sponsorship was granted by the Pontifical Council for Culture and Pontifical Council for Social Communications (Holy See), Board of Entertainment, the State of Jalisco, TEC de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara, Universidad Panamericana, the Episcopal Comissão para a Culture of Education and Social dos Bispos comunicação do Brasil, Duoc UC de la Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and the New York Film Academy. BrazilLocation:Bento Gonçalves (Brazil) The cooperative project with Brazil began with a training course in Bento Gonçalves for 20 Italian-Brazilian nationals. On May 23 teaching activities of the Embutidos Serra Gaucha project began, organized by the Kepha Foundation in a spirit of international cooperation and support of the Italian community in Brazil. The course, which was held in facilities made available by the Facultad Cenecista, Bento Gonçalves, was in the instruction of traditionally Italian sausage product production. The course, attended by 20 Italian-Brazilian students to which were added four observers, aged between 20 and 40 years; composed of 16 men and 4 women of various social backgrounds ranging from students, to small businessowners, to unemployed persons. The objective of the project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, was to create an entrepreneurial bridge between Italy and Brazil and was composed of two parts: the first, "Promoting Local Development", designed to introduce students to the technical reality of production; and the second, "Business Training", focused on a strategical study of this sector. The project included an internship in Italy for the 15 students with the best performance. The nine-month course, concluded in February 2008, had, in August, an important practical contribution: the hands-on expertise in the production of Italian sausage products in the form of theoretical-practical lessons conducted by two major producers of the sector: Marco Masonale, from Venice, and Gianni Leone, from the province of Molise. The two experts worked side-by-side with students in the laboratories of Centre Federal de Educação Technology Bento Gonçalves. Masconale and Leone instructed the students on the correct techniques of production of cured meats, traditional to their respective regions of origin. Another important part of the work was selecting of a local breed of swine appropriate for the type of production studied; this involved the retrieval and conservation of native pig breeds and research activity for improving the quality of meat. The design of the entire project evolved around the strategic analysis of the particular needs and the conditions of the territory. Among local partners of the initiative were the Association Caminhos de Pedra – which works to retrieve and promote Italian culture brought by immigrants to Serra Gaucha since 1875; the CIC and the Facoltà Cenescits of Bento Gonçalves; together with the participation of 14 regional municipalities. The “Embutidos Serra Gaucha” Seminar, held in the auditorium of the CIC (Centre for Commerce and Industry Services), in the Brazilian city of Bento Gonçalves, marked the official commencement of the course. The meeting was presided by Vasco Tarcisio Michelon, Honorary Consul of Italy, Bento Gonçalves; by General Director of the Kepha Foundation Pandolfo Pandolfi; by Leocir Bottega President of the Associazione Caminhos de Pedra; and by Ivane Bavero, representing the Serra Gaucha Association of Tourism. Speakers included Dr. Michele Esposto, (the "Territorial Pact Matese”) and Nicholas Morrone, Vice President of "Molise Innovation”; the participation of their respective institutions was highlighted by their having been responsible for the technical part of the course. Federico Federici of the company “Intercode Bologna” and project coordinator, explained in detail the activities of the course. Location:Rio de Janeiro (Brasile) Realization of the training course "Italian School of Restoration in Rio de Janeiro". The course, funded in part by the Regione Lazio and the remaining half by the Kepha Foundation, included participants of whom 25% were of Lazian origin. The training activity was centered around various areas of restoration: architectural elements were analyzed (marble, stone and plaster); painting on canvas or wood; wood in all its artifacts such as statues, altars and shrines, metals with emphasis on silver and bronze, restoration of ancient books and antique xilo handcrafted work. The operations surrounding this project, conceptualized and overseen by the Kepha Foundation, were under the care of Ciapa Brasil. E.C.P.L. Project
Period: 2005-2007 ECPL – European Conservation Practitioner’s License for the establishment of common standards within the European Community for vocational training in cultural heritage conservation. The Kepha Foundation participated in the ECPL European Conservation Practitioner's License project, actuated in 2005 and funded by the European Community Leonardo da Vinci Project. Together with Heritage Malta, ideator of the project, Palazzo Spinelli Institute, Technological Education Institute (Greece) and Ecole d'Avignon, the Kepha Foundation developed a project structured for establishing training standards, common to all European Community nations, for conservation and restoration of the cultural heritage. This license ECPL permits accuracy and immediacy in identifying competence levels of the various entities working in cultural heritage preservation. As such, the license has become a fundamental part in the collaboration between countries: conferred to museums, restoration and cultural institutions, this certification attests to the qualification of individuals from different European countries and is a determining factor in their being admitted to training courses or participating in restorative activities.
